As the GIRL WITH A SUITCASE, Cardinale is Aida, a poor but upstanding young woman, valiantly struggling to protect her virtue while being betrayed by her trusting nature. Rejected by her lover, Marcello, a wealthy cad about town, she ends up with his sixteen year old brother, Lorenzo, who makes a gallant effort to save her from a sinister collection of rogues. In her peasant blouse and billowing skirt, Cardinale is a shot of caffeine to Perrin's sexual awakening, and his noble actions provide a thin ray of hope against an otherwise dark future. Aida and Lorenzo eventually find solace in each others arms, but their idyll is shattered when her shady past catches up with her.

From this, her first starring role, Cardinale went on to stardom in Hollywood appearing in "Once Upon in the West", "Circus World" and the Pink Panther series. After all, Life magazine called her: ". . . unusual and touching . . . Claudia Cardinale is a delicious dish."
